Late payment interest calculator

Under Directive 2011/7/EU, when a business client pays you outside the agreed term you are entitled to late payment interest and to €40 flat compensation per invoice, without having had to demand it first.

What you can claim

The legal basis, to paste into your demand

  1. 01Art. 3: absent agreement, the payment period is 30 calendar days; between businesses it may not exceed 60 unless expressly agreed and not grossly unfair to the creditor.
  2. 02Art. 2(6) and 6(2): late payment interest is the ECB reference rate plus at least 8 percentage points.
  3. 03Art. 2(7): the applicable reference rate is the one in force on the first calendar day of the half-year, and it governs the following six months.
  4. 04Art. 6(1): on top of interest, the creditor is entitled to a fixed minimum sum of €40 per invoice, automatically and without any reminder being necessary.
  5. 05Art. 6(3): reasonable compensation for further recovery costs may also be claimed.
